Adding another layer to the world of shadowhunters, Cassandra Clare gives readers a whole new adventure with The Infernal Devices series, a prequel to her bestselling series The Mortal Instruments. Set in Victorian London, this steampunk trilogy centers around Tessa Grey, a young American teen gifted with power of shapeshifting. Captured by evil forces, she’s rescued by a pair of shawdowhunters, Will Herondale and Jem Carstairs, and thrust onto a path to discover who she really is. While a battle between good and evil rages on around her, a battle rages within her heart as she struggles with her feelings for both Will and Jem. However, this isn’t your typical teenage love triangle that has a clear winner and loser. Clare develops complex relationships between Tessa and the guys, as well as the intense friendship between Will and Jem. With both of these guys perfect for Tessa for different reasons, you’ll find yourself flip-flopping between who should get the girl in the end questioning if there really is such a thing as one true love. A complex story of love, friendship and finding your place, The Infernal Devices series will leave you wishing it was more than just three books.

Books in the Series

Fictional Guy February Day #9: Will Herondale from “The Infernal Devices”

Will Herondale (Image)

If there was a word to perfectly describe shadowhunter Will Herondale of Cassandra Clare’s Victorian London trilogy Infernal Devices it would be complex. Cursed to believe anyone who he loves or loves him will die a painful death, he pushes everyone around him away with his arrogance and sarcasm. However, Will cares deeply about his makeshift family and willingly puts himself in danger and sacrifices his own happiness for them, especially his best friend Jem. The one place he does feel he can just be is in the pages of books. They become his salvation, his way to keep from going mad with misery and solitude. Will longs to love and be love, and his beautifully tragic story is book you’ll want to read over and over.
