If all the great love stories of literature have taught us anything is that the great love is more often than not a person’s last love. Think about it. We want to believe that our characters’ happily ever afters continue well after we’ve read the last page of their tale. It doesn’t matter how many people they have been with before, we only root for them to be together until the day they die. Books remind us that someone’s past romantic history isn’t what’s important. The most important thing is that we find the person that makes us want to stop looking and stay with them forever.
Because of reading we know being last is sometimes better than being first.
