Witching Wednesdays Week One: The Sanderson Sisters from “Hocus Pocus”

Who better to kick off this month of Witching Wednesdays the Sanderson sisters from the 1993 classic film Hocus Pocus? Winifred (Bette Midler), Sarah (Sarah Jessica Parker), and Mary (Kathy Najimy) have one goal: absorb the as many life forces from as many children as they can to stay young and beautiful forever. After they are captured and hanged for witchcraft, they are resurrected when a cynical teen lights a candle 300 years later in their old cottage and go right back to trying to capture children’s souls. Ok, so these ladies aren’t the most upstanding citizens, but they are just so darn endearing. I mean who can resist Winifred’s kooky plans, Sarah’s ditzy remarks or Mary’s killer lip curl? Plus, watching these ladies trying to pull off their evil deeds while trying to navigate the 1990s is simply pure comedic gold. However, the thing that really sets these girls apart is their insane musical talents. Whether it’s Sarah enchanting children or Winifred leading the rest of the coven in the best rendition “I Put a Spell on You” ever, we’d all kill for front row seats to the Sanderson Sisters’ tour.

So, to the Sanderson sisters, you queens of the night keep rocking on. Halloween wouldn’t be the same without you.

And because you can’t do Witching Wednesdays with the Sanderson Sisters and not include this epic performance.
