Don’t let the candy colors and pretty images fool you: The Perfectionists and its sequel The Good Girls are packed with all the suspense and mystery we have come to expect from Sara Shepard books. These two books center around soccer star Caitlin Martell-Lewis, model-esque Ava Jalali, musical prodigy MacKenzie Wright, popular Julie Redding and the mysterious outcast Parker Duvall who find themselves smack dab in the middle of a murder investigation of one of their classmates. After all having their lives turned upside down at the hands of Nolan Hotchkiss, the girls decide during a film studies discussion group to get even and decide play a nasty prank on him at one of his parties. However, things go horribly wrong when Nolan turns up dead the next dead the next day. The girls know they he was still alive when they left, but they are still at risk of becoming the number one suspects. In order to protect their carefully laid out futures, the girls take it upon themselves to find out who the real killer is. However, when more bodies start turning up, they have to face a scary prospect: Perhaps one of them is a killer. With disturbing final twist you won’t see coming, The Perfectionists and The Good Girls may be Shepard’s darkest works to date.
