September Reading List Day Five: “Brunette Ambition” by Lea Michele

I absolutely love Lea Michele, and I could kick myself for not picking up her Brunette Ambition sooner. (It was one of those books I always meant to buy, but forgot to get every time I went to barnes and Noble.) Part memoir part lifestyle guide, this book gives a behind-the-scenes look into Michele’s career on broadway and her role as Rachel Berry on the hit television show Glee, as well as giving fans a glimpse into her personal life. She shares her favorite recipes, style and beauty tips, and workout moves in way that feels like you’re getting them from your best friend. She also pulls back the curtain on the struggles she faced, the life lessons she’s learned in the business, and the tragedies she’s experienced in her young life, including the death of her on-screen/off-screen boyfriend Cory Monteith. (Although she doesn’t go into too much depth on the topic, she peppers in subtle tributes to him.) Throughout the book, Michele encourages readers embrace what makes them unique, nourish themselves body and soul, and to persevere through struggles in order to get to where they want to be in life. Whether you’re a fan of Michele like me or not, Brunette Ambition is the perfect guide to help you achieve the best version of yourself.
